…the color of choice these days.

First up, the Lacy Butterflies Scarf designed by Shirley Paden for Vogue’s 25th Anniversary Issue. When I saw the photo, I thought “nice.” But then I looked at the chart, and thought “oh my god, I have to make this scarf!” Shirley has done it again! This is an interesting and challenging knit. I had the opportunity to discuss this pattern with Shirley, and she generously sent me her notes to her knitter, along with a copy of the pattern. She is an amazing designer and teacher, with a kind and generous nature. Her passion for knitting shows in each of her designs. I only hope to be able to do this pattern justice. I chose Blue Sky Alpaca’s Alpaca & Silk. I’m working on size 5 Addi Lace Needles. And I’m loving every minute of it!

Next up, French Girl’s Daphne Shawl. This is my current easy, mindless knit. I chose Be Sweet’s Bamboo – such an amazing yarn. And the deep rich hues are meshing with the pattern. I should have this finished just in time for chilly fall nights that can’t come soon enough!

Lastly, some charity knitting – mittens for Caroline House. I’m using odds & ends. Another easy, portable project. And such a quick knit!

I’ve also been working on a super secret project for Knitting Central.

The Knitting Central Sock Club has just been announced. It features an entire year of socks designed by staff members at Knitting Central (aka the sock junkies!), and features the best hand-dyed sock yarns available today. Here’s how it works – every other month of the year you receive an original design and sock yarn (and maybe a few goodies along the way!). A Yahoo Group will be the place to go for support and to see what others in the sock club are doing. The designers will be available to help sock club members through the journey, and will give tips and tricks along the way.

My sock design is up first at the end of September! We all got to choose the yarn, and then design the pattern specifically for that yarn. You’ll just have to wait until the end of September to see what I chose and why. Some of the great things about this sock club are: all original designs exclusive to the sock club; you can give us one color you absolutely do not want on your feet, but we will choose the most beautiful color for you; and sock club members will receive different colors of the same yarn so you can see how the pattern compliments any color of the chosen yarn!

Go to Knitting Central to check out the sock club and sign up today! Membership closes September 29th, so hurry up!

Hope you all had a safe and happy Labor Day Weekend! Happy unofficial beginning of Fall!
