Doilies rule!

October 1st, 2007

Yes, I know it’s been a while. I’ve been knitting away on a few things. The first – this blob:

“What is it?” you ask. Well, lace. All lace looks like this until you add a cool water wash; many, many pins; and about an hour crawling around on the floor getting it just right:

It’s the Hemlock Ring Blanket courtesy of Brooklyn Tweed.

Pattern: Hemlock Ring Blanket, Brooklyn Tweed
Yarn: Wool brought back from South America, approx 800 yds
Needles: US 9 dpns for center and US 10 1/2 addi turbos
Modifications to pattern: added rows 87 – 104 (4 lace repeats)
Size: Approx. 5 feet in diameter
Began: September 16, 2007
Completed: September 20, 2007
Recipient: Me

The blanket is in it’s new home – the back of my comfy knitting chair. I love the way it looks basking in the morning sun here. This was such a quick and easy knit. The lace pattern was easy to follow after setting it up and provided the mindless knitting needed right about now.

Wow – that certainly doesn’t look easy, but you make it sound easy. I think it’s beautiful and I truly can’t believe how quickly you knit it up. I’m happy to see the before and after pictures. It brings hope to those of us who don’t knit lace. Enjoy!
