Ladies and Gentlemen, we have a winner!

Yes, we have a winner. The Rib and Cable Socks by Nancy Bush from Interweave Fall 2005. I spent Friday night swatching and figuring and plotting, and decided on cables for this silky sock yarn. But I really didn’t want to write my own pattern, so I perused my sock patterns and chose this one. It also seemed appropriate as Nancy Bush is coming to teach at Knitting Central in a few weeks. I’m sitting in on the Saturday class, butI am working on Sunday, so that class is out. Of course, I’ll try to pop in as much as possible to see what bits and pieces I can pick up!

Here is the sock basking in the beautiful morning sun. Look at the cabley(word?) goodness.

In weather news, we survived the ice and sleet. The sun came out yesterday and began to melt everything. Just 2 seconds before I took this picture, there were 2 little birds sitting on the edge of my balcony this morning enjoying the sun. I didn’t mean to scare them off. I tend to get lots of little birds on my balcony because a neighbor a few floors down leaves crumbs out for them. Looks like spring is really on the way – time to dig out the pinwheels to keep them away! I have this irrational fear of the little birds flying right in – this is due to a time way back when I was in high school, which involved a bird that flew into the house through an open window, a broom, and my mother shoving my sister into the room to swat the bird out, and then promptly shutting the door behind her, leaving my sister to face the bird alone. Birds kind of freak me out now. Go figure. It doesn’t help that my sister brings up this traumatic event every chance she gets. My mother claims she was teaching my sister a “life experience.” It’s been over 20 years now, you’d think we’d get over it.

And these icicles looked so darned pretty sparkling in the morning sun.

Now I’m off to work. I do like working at Knitting Central on Sundays. We get a whole bunch of people in that we don’t see during the week. It’s always so great to see what others are knitting (and crocheting)! It’s such an inspiration! Enjoy your Sunday.

The cable & rib sock is gorgeous – and I’m so envious that you’re going to be in Nancy Bush’s class. I can’t make either weekend class – boo hoo. So, I’ll be drooling over your every word. I want to make so many of Nancy’s socks in the Vintage Socks book. She’s amazing!

Okay, let’s get something straight here – Mom did not know it was a bird, it could have been a rabid bat. She was supposed to have my back and she bailed. You think YOU have an irrational fear of birds? Whenever I pass wild turkeys on the side of the road, I swear they’re looking right at me, Hitchcock style…
