Bad Koigu, Bad Bad Pooling Koigu

April 7th, 2007

I love Koigu; I really, really love Koigu. Being on a sock kick from Nancy Bush’s class, I pulled out some Koigu that has been in my stash a while. I cast on for the Embossed Leaf Socks from Interweave.

Well, one side of the sock looks good:

And the other side, not so good:

I have never seen Koigu do this. I like the spiraling of colors on the cuff, but the leg—it’s ugly. I said it. I never thought I’d ever say ugly and Koigu in the same breath, but guess what? This Koigu sock is ugly.

The only other time I have seen Koigu come close to striping/spiraling is on these socks:

They are the Diagonal Rib Socks from Interweave Webknits. They have been sitting since August (yes, August). I didn’t like how the second sock was pooling on the foot, so I just stopped. I think I need to just finish them – I’m so close to being done.

Back to the drawing board for the ugly Koigu. I’m thinking plain stockinette or simple ribbing for this yarn. I think I’ll throw put it back in the stash for a while.

I also started a sock with the Lucy Neatby Celestial Merino Sock Yarn I picked up last week. I fell in love with the Child’s First Sock in Shell Pattern from Nancy Bush’s Knitting Vintage Socks. I fell in love with the yarn. Match made in heaven, right? Wrong. These socks are pooling too:

At first, I thought they we’re turning out kinda cool. Then I absolutely didn’t like them. Then I thought they we’re kinda cool. I’m at the point where I don’t like them. I’m going to put them aside for a while. I still love the pattern. I still love the yarn. Just not together.

Tune in next time for the continuing sock pooling saga that seems to have taken over at Danni Knits.

Wow, who would have thought that even our beloved koigu would pool? I feel your pooling pain…
Question: what size aran sweater did you make? I’m curious because I am making the 6 month size and the arms look too short to me…

Boo hoo! I’m so sorry for you and your ugly Koigu socks. How utterly disappointing. The stitch is soooo beautiful. I’m so sorry about the pooling. Boo hoo. Boo hoo.
